Excessive free-radical production is increasingly being regarded as a reason for aging. Free radicals damage cells, which causes the body’s organs and systems to lose functional capacity. Free-radical damage also impairs protein synthe¬sis, which is vital to tissue regeneration and repair. Free radicals are unpaired electrons with positive or negative charge. Free radicals on coming into contact with healthy cells take away an electron from the cells to neutralize their charges. In this process of “taking away electrons” the healthy cells get damaged. Free radical attack takes place in our body cells all the time. Free radicals are formed in our body as a byproduct of natural metabolism process. They can also be formed due to external factors like smoke, stress, infections, unhealthy food habits, alcohol etc. Beyond certain extent this damage becomes clearly visible in our body. Aging is the result of such damage.  Degenerative diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Arthritis etc. are also the result of this cellular damage. If free radical attack can be warded off we can remain young forever - at least till the normal human lifespan of 120 years. We can also live disease free.

It is proven that free radical damage can be warded off with the help of anti oxidants. While anti oxidants are of many types, Vitamin C and Vitamin E are considered to be powerful anti oxidants. These anti oxidants scavenge and mop up the free radicals and protect against cellular damage. Doctors and health care specialists recommend liberal intake of vitamins and minerals for a healthy and long life.  Americans, Japanese and Western Europeans are very much aware of the importance of vitamins in anti aging and have been taking it in large numbers. But still all the age related diseases are striking in increasing numbers and people are aging faster.  There is a major reason for this. As we age the cell walls become thick and vitamins cannot penetrate the cell walls and reach inside of the cells. This is as good as not taking any vitamins. This is where Shilajit  is of major help. The Fulvic Acid in shilajit helps penetrate the cell wall membrane and transport the vitamins and minerals deep inside the cell. Thus the cells get adequate supply of vitamins and minerals and are able to ward off free radical damage.  Moreover Shilajit by itself has 85 minerals in ionic form which are easily absorbed by cells. Minerals act as a catalyst for the free radical removal; process (i.e.) the cells cannot use vitamins by itself and they need minerals to help in the free radical removal process.
