Steve Jobs of Apple is dead. Steve jobs pancreatic cancer
Is it possible that one of the greatest geniuses, inventors and innovators the world has seen - Steve Jobs could have been alive today if only he had been bit more smart when it came to his health? There are currently talks that Steve Jobs relied more on natural and herbal medicines to treat his cancer rather than surgery. Question arises whether it is really true.

Firstly we have to understand the type of cancer Steve Jobs was suffering from. He was suffering from a rare form of pancreatic cancer known as islet-cell neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer does not show any visible symptoms for as much as 12 years in most cases. By the time it is diagnosed the malignancy would have already grown and spread beyond manageable levels. This is the reason why it has such a high mortality rates. The first year survival rate - the year after which it is diagnosed is 24 percent. The 5 year survival rate is as low as 3%. That means that of 100 persons diagnosed of pancreatic cancer as many as 75 will die at the end of first year and as many as 97 out of 100 persons will die by the fifth year. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most leading cause of cancer deaths in America. It has highest mortality rates of all the cancers. To aggravate this mortality rate further Steve jobs was suffering from a rare form of pancreatic cancer which has even higher mortality rates.

Steve Jobs' pancreatic cancer was diagnosed in 2003 and he died in 2011. . There only a 3% chance for him to survive beyond 2008. Going by the statistics he definitely lived much longer and gave the world few more great products. Steve Jobs took a number of herbal medicines along with conventional treatment. The news that Steve Jobs relied upon herbal medicines and hence he did not take conventional medical treatment or undergo surgery is totally wrong. No one least of all Steve Jobs would have ever done such a thing. Surgery for cancer is something that is truly daunting and outright scary.

Being such a busy man with the entire world looking towards him in 2003 it was quite possible that he in consultation with his doctors opted for Chemotherapy or radiation and delayed surgery. It is also very common for doctors to administer radiotherapy and chemotherapy on pancreatic cancer patients for a couple of months before doing surgery. This is considered a more effective practice as the chances of relapses are reduced.

Herbal extracts, diet etcetra do have proven anti cancer properties. In fact they are known to be very effective in reducing the risks of cancer. Just as tobacco increases risk of cancer certain herbal extracts can reduce the risk of various types of cancer. But it has to be born in mind that only a doctor and modern medical science can treat cancer effectively. No herb or supplement can treat or cure cancer.

Shilajit as a treatment for reproductive infertility – Try before looking for sperm bank donors..
Shilajit was used by Indian Yogis and Ayurvedic doctors of India for thousands of years to help childless couples and infertile persons. Shilajit is perhaps one of the best kept secrets of ancient India. Modern science and medicine has begun to discover the powers of shilajit in this regard. Shilajit contains certain types of proteins, amino acids, Dibenzo alpha pyrones, fatty acids, carotenoids, metal ions and Fulvic acid which help in the reproductive function. Fulvic acid transports the nutrients in shilajit as well as other vitamins and minerals deep into the body cells. Fulvic acid also flushes out of all the toxns and chemicals that affect the reproductive function. Shilajit acts on various areas related to reproduction notably male infertility, development and protection of embryo, female sexual dysfunction and libido enhancement. We will see the ingredients of shilajit and their specific functions in detail.
L Carnitine an ingredient in shilajit provides an energetic substrate to spermatozoa and it contributes sperm motility. L Carnitine directly assists in the successful maturation of sperm.
Poly unsaturated fatty acids  PUFA in shilajit give the cell membranes of sperms considerable fluidity to participate in membrane fusion events associated with fertilization. Another ingredient in Shilajit is Dibenzo alpha pyrones known as DBP. DBP’s are very essential for sperm health.
The amino acids in shilajit are far more effective than what is available from other sources are supplement extracts. The amino acids like arginine and lysine are the constituents of sperm chromatine proteins, protomines and histones.
DBP – Chemoproteins ( Dibenzo alpha pyrone chemoproteins) protect against the damage to seminal fluids by reducing the reactive nitrogen species in the sperm. Reactive nitrogen species act together with reactive oxygen species to damage cells, causing nitrosative stress. This process destroys the vital sperm cells. This leads to lower count of sperm in the seminal fluid. Shilajit thus can very effectively prevent this destruction of vital sperm cells.
The zinc in shilajit is in organic and ionic form. This is unlike what may be ingested through food or through supplements. This zinc raises testosterone levels and consequently augments sperm health.
Several detailed studies were done in India on the effect of shilajit on semen quality of adult males. Seminal analysis was done initially and after 60 days of consuming shilajit. The results were truly remarkable.
The volume of seminal fluid per ejaculation was 3.42 ml initially. It rose to 4.25 ml after the administration of shilajit. This was a marketd 24.27 percentage in seminal volume.
The wet weight of the seminal fluid was 3.08 grams initially. It rose to 4.15 grams after taking shilajit. This was an increase of 34.74 percentage..
Dry weight of the seminal fluid was 317 milli grams initially. It rose to 394 grams after consuming shilajit. This was a marked 24.29 percentage increase.
The fructose content in seminal fluid was 4.45 milli grams per milli litre initially. It rose to 5.18 after consuming shilajit. This was an increase of 16 percentage.
Amino acid content in sperm is one important factor that determines the survival of spermatozoa in the female genital tract. The failure of sperm progression in the female genital tract may be due to a decrease of amino acid molecules in semen of infertile patients. It was also shown in various studies around the world that consumption large amount of amino acid supplements alone did not increase the concentration of amino acid molecules I semen.
Shilajit was found in 2 distinct studies to effectively increase the concentration of amino acids in semen. The seminal fluids of 2 sets of individuals were studied. One set was of average age of 60 years and mostly infertile. The other set was of average age of 30 years.
The amino acid concentration in their seminal fluids was measured initially and after 4 months of taking shilajit. In older subjects there was an increase of amino acid (total) in semen from 1% to 3%. In the younger subjects the amino acid concentration increased from 2% to 6%.
Those who wish to enhance their reproductive levels and fertility should consider shilajit as an option.

Shilajit and antiretroviral treatment in HIV/AIDS therapy

anti-aging-supplements Shilajit and antiretroviral treatment in HIV/AIDS therapy http://www.rudramani.com
Shilajit is a multi mineral pitch containing 85 trace minerals, Fulvic acid and other not elsewhere available enzymes. It is truly a wonder substance. Its powers were known to Indian Yogis since thousands of years. Modern science and medicine are slowly discovering the powers of shilajit.  It is Shilajit that can make a difference in chronic ailments that are plaguing the body and mind and where others fail. One such truly amazing power of shilajit is in boosting the immune systems to totally different levels.  In this context the effect of Shilajit was studied in regards to HIV/AIDS therapy.
It is generally accepted that agents hat enhance immune system or temper drug side effects may complement conventional HIV/AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) therapies. Drugs that reduce the viral load of the human immune deficiency virus (HIV) enable the body to restore white blood cell counts and as a result extend the life of the people who are affected with HIV.    The modern treatment methods for HIV/AIDS patients mainly involve ART or anti retroviral therapies. HIV infection when diagnosed early and if treatments are started in time, can be effectively controlled so that it does not develop into full blown AIDS. The life of the patient can be extended by several decades with ART therapies.  Shilajit’s powers have been found to be truly surprising and amazing in this regard. This has been clearly established with 2 latest studies. It has been found that Shilajit is endowed with both immune potentiating and viral load reducing properties.
A clinical study of AIDS patients with multi component natural product formulation comprising 3 essential and 3 supportive ingredients was done. Shilajit was the main component in the study – others being Withania Somnifera and Tulsi. Out of 36 patients the 22 patients who received the treatment with the formulations for 6 months showed positive signs of improvement. Their CD4 ( (cluster of differentiation 4) cell counts increased from  around 260 to 450.  Around 10 patients who received this treatment for 1 year showed distinct improvement in the symptoms and augmentation in the CD4  to a consistent level of around 650.  Doctors use a test that 'counts' the number of CD4 cells in a cubic millimeter of blood. A normal CD4 count in a healthy and HIV-negative adult can vary but is usually between 600 and 1200 CD4 cells/mm3. It recommended that HIV treatment is started when  CD4 cell count is around 350.
Another study of the effect of shilajit and 2 other herbs was done on HIV patients at Department of Virology, Haffkines Institute at Mumbai, India. The Haffkines Institute, Mumbai , India was established in 1899 by Dr. Waldemar Mordecai Haffkine who trained directlt under the legendary Louis Pasteur in ParIs. This institute played a vital role in containing bubonic plague outbreak in India during early part of last century.  In-vitro tests were done with the herbal extracts of the plants Shilajit, Ashwagandha and Tulsi on Reverse Transcriptase, an enzyme that is found in the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) and causes it to multiply. The tests showed that these herbs have the potential to act effectively against the enzyme. The study began in 2006 with the three herbal extracts being tested against Reverse Transcriptase. Simultaneously, a drug named azidothymidine (AZT), which is used for the treatment of HIV/AIDS, was also tested. Results of this comparative study showed that tulsi and shilajit gave better results than that of AZT drug on the enzyme. “When AZT was 70% effective in blocking the enzyme activity, tulsi and shilajit showed 80% to 90% activity. Now that the herbal extracts of these plants have shown positive results, the institute is planning to take the research to the next level. Surely some more organized research and study needs to be done on these beneficial powers of shilajit. One can surely benefit by taking Shilajit as a supplement together with any other conventional treatment for HIV/AIDS.
Can Shilajit together with Ashwagandah and Tulsi help in prevention of HIV infection? This is a very tricky question which has no conclusive answers as of now. Conducting such a research is extremely difficult and risky. The best ways to avoid HIV infection are well known. HIV infection spreads through bodily fluids namely blood, semen, vaginal fluids and breast milk. One has to be very careful in case of exchange of these fluids. Safe sex using condoms give protection only 85% of times. Transfusion with HIV infected blood is almost 100% sure to transmit the infection. A course of antiretroviral treatment administered immediately after exposure, referred to as post-exposure prophylaxis, reduces the risk of infection if begun as quickly as possible. This has to be done within one hour to 72 hours from the time of infection. The success of this preventive treatment depends on the viral load that is received and how soon the treatment is started. If the treatment can be started within an hour the success of the treatment could be as higher as 96%. In this context logical inference means that Shilajit can make a significant contribution. Shilajit was initially never meant for tackling HIV infection. It is an anti aging elixir providing vital nutrients to the body. Shilajit has already been proven to be an effective therapy for HIV in conjunction with conventional treatment or by itself. Shilajit has been shown to decrease the viral load and increase CD4 counts in those who have already contracted HIV.
Those who take Shilajit daily could benefit to some extent at the time of exposure to HIV. The virus is at it’s most vulnerable time during initial time. With shilajit already being taken some degree of protection against contracting the infection could be possible. Indian Yogis discovered the wonderful benefits of Shilajit thousands of years ago. They called it as Amrit – meaning “the elixir that makes one immortal”. It is indeed interesting to note that shilajit is of help in a modern 20 century disease like HIV/AIDS.
